One of the most amazing things to witness is seeing God heal somebody. What a beautiful sight to see God lift the pain and sickness off of a person within an instant. With tears streaming down and joyful smiles finding a new home in the person's face, it never gets old. I have witnessed a strong amount of healings before, some I have even been blessed to be a part of!
It's a shame that so many Christians have little-to no faith in healing. Many Christians have never witnessed Jesus heal someone, so they assume that either God doesn't do that stuff anymore or if someone prays for healing and it doesn't work, they just don't have that gift. Both point of views are drastically flawed. First of all, there is no scriptural evidence anywhere to suggest that Holy Spirit doesn't still supernaturally heal people. Jesus is still the "Sun of Righteousness with healing in his wings" (Malachi 4:2). Nothing changed. And the latter is wrong as it points too much attention on the individual and not on God who empowers individuals. No one owns the gifts of Holy Spirit in a way that they can just summon them whenever they please. No, Jesus is always in control and He is the source of all divine healing. There is much more I'd like to say about this subject, but I got a short story I want to tell first :)
I believe it was January, early in 2014 and my awesome friend Emily asked me to come over to talk about some faith-related questions. It is such a privilege to be in a position where my friends trust my council. It keeps me in a humbling spot where I must always rely on the Father's wisdom and not my own. As we were discussing each other's faith, her boyfriend who is also my good friend, Devin, came over. It was a pretty sweet moment as we all engaged in some fun God-talk. In the midst of it all, I couldn't help but notice the wrist brace that Devin was wearing. I asked him about it and he told me he fractured it. He also expressed to me that his back was giving him pain because of a pinched nerve. I felt like God was up to something so I asked Devin if we could pray for him. He said yes, so Emily and I placed our hands on his back where it was hurting. After we prayed, I asked him if he felt any better - "Nope." So we prayed again. This time something happened. I could totally sense God moving in this second prayer and when we finished, I asked Devin to test his back out. He did some stretching excerises and sitting motions which usually caused a strong pain to occur. He was able to do everything perfectly and without pain. God had healed his back right there in that moment! He soon admitted, "I want to say something but it will sound cheesy." I urged him to just tell us anyway so he said, "I felt something." He explained that he actually feel God healing his back. Isn't that amazing?!
It was pretty humorous because Devin seemed to be genuinely freaked out by the experience - but in a good way. I saw him in the caf the next morning and asked him how he was doing, he replied, "The back feels great, I'm still freaked out though." I can't blame him for feeling freaked out - this was an intense reality! Unfortunately, it isn't very common that a friend would pray for you and heal you with the power of Holy Spirit. In that moment Devin encountered Jesus the Healer and the power of the Trinity's Love.
(P.S. We prayed for his wrist as well. His wrist wasn't healed and I don't have the answers for why that didn't happen. However, I will always trust God's perfect plan.)
